What is SIR (Special Intensive Revision)?
SIR (Special Intensive Revision) is a major, in-depth revision of electoral rolls conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
It is more detailed than the usual annual voter list update.
Main Objectives of SIR
- Add all eligible 18+ voters
- Remove duplicate, deceased, or ineligible names
- Correct errors in name, age, gender, or address
- Ensure a clean and accurate voter list before major elections
SIR is carried out under Article 324 of the Constitution and provisions of the Representation of the People Act.
