What is SIR (Special Intensive Revision)?

SIR is a special, large-scale revision of electoral rolls carried out by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

  • Remove ineligible, duplicate, or incorrect entries
  • Correct errors in age, name, address, or details

SIR is conducted under the Election Commission’s constitutional powers (Article 324) and the Representation of the People Act.

Understanding Election Lists (Simple Explanation)

1️⃣ What is a General Election List?

A General Election List is the full voter list prepared for any large-scale election — state or national.
Before this election, voter records are updated through SIR.

2️⃣ What is the SIR Draft List?

SIR = Special Intensive Revision.
The SIR Draft List is published to allow the public to:

  • Add names of new eligible voters (18+)
  • Correct wrong information
  • Remove names of deceased/ineligible persons

This is done before major elections like the Bihar Assembly Election.

3️⃣ What is the Draft Roll List?

Draft Roll is a yearly list released for public checking.

You can:

  • Verify your details
  • Request corrections
  • Apply if your name is missing

Difference between Draft Roll vs Draft SIR:

4️⃣ What is the Final Roll List?

Final Roll is the official, final voter list, created after corrections from the Draft Roll.

Only voters who are:

  • Verified
  • Eligible
  • Document-approved
    are included.

If your name is not in the Final Roll, you cannot vote.

5️⃣ What is a Supplement List?

A Supplement List is issued after the Final Roll.

It includes:

  • Newly added voters
  • Recently corrected entries

During elections, both:

  • Final Roll and
  • Supplement List
are used to confirm voter eligibility.
